Theoretically capable of lifting about 150 tons, this massive 500-ft prototype blimp features a flying saucer shape so that it can combat heavy winds and still deliver its cargo at a breakneck speeds (playful sarcasm) over distances of up to 1,200 miles.
Skylifter, which is also the name of the company that builds it, plans on having these airborne within the next three years.

interesting.. what kind of propulsion system will it have? can't be just the wind or something of the like.
good post.
wow... i invented something like that in high school... yes that is the future of cargo transport... when fuel cost=zero, anything that can move without time constraint becomes almost free to ship anywhere... countries that have the lowest paid workers will become the suppliers for everyone else, and everyone in the richer countries works in the service economy because manufacturing will be nonexistent...
ha, epic.
i wonder how much radiation will affect this.
i bet the aliens are going to be pissed that we are misusing their technology.
I can actually see this becoming more and more realistic
looks great. i wonder if this will also be used a human transport.
..Human transport?? lol
I'll be that for a dollar!! ;)
Now I know what will happened when the ice caps will melt! We'll live inside those ufo thingies lol
inb4 aliens starts lawsuits on them. But seriously looks like a great idea provided US military doesn't shoot em down for trespassing their air space and etc.

pretty cool but people might go nuts thinking were under invasion and shoot alot down :|
I don't want to think what will happen if one of those falls. Hope they have some serious safety features.
