"As for the battery, it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS" Iwata said during a recent Q&A session with investors. "This is why we are going to include the cradle, which is a dedicated battery charger. Perhaps we may need to dispatch to our consumers a message, something like, 'Please place your Nintendo 3DS on the cradle as soon as you return home with it'."
That first sentence is the key: it means you won't get the same battery mileage from the 3DS you do from a DS. It's not a surprise, of course; extra horsepower and 3D capabilities will drain a battery faster than a DS game would, and packing one in that could withstand a lot of 3D play would have driven the cost of the handheld to a point Nintendo normally doesn't sell hardware.
Still, it's interesting to see Nintendo take a backwards step on battery life, since it's normally been such a concern for the company's handhelds.

Of course it will not last as long. Their is much more hardware to power, and they are using the same cell battery as the dsi.
Indeed, more hardware = more usage.. same batteries will not last as long.
what a crap
that sux
That's suck ay. I hate recharging too much.
Interesting!
cool post brah!
can't they make a more powerful batteries?
or is this another marketing ploy so that user will be force to buy better batteries?
dayum you have a lot of followers... congrats...
holy crap what a sweet piece of machinery.
Thats unfortunate, might not get this then.
great post
i dont like it this post :D
ya it wont last as long. Batteries needs to be able to hold longer.
hate to recharge
I think the guys in nintendo is kicking themselfs in the but
There were some benefits to using AA batteries. At least you could change them out wherever you happened to be without waiting for it to charge.
They already screwed up their battery life with the last two DS models. I didn't expect a company like Nintendo to become better.
It really was expected. I just hope it won't be to big of a difference.
Really nothing you can do with that with all the features that will be on it so I don't mind. I pretty much would only play mine at home anyway so I'm not too concerned.
This is very unfortunate. My play current on the DS drains the battery in no time. I might have to wait for the second or third model and hopefully they fix this.
hey bro I changed the name of my blog from too-senseless to pointless-sells.blogspot.com, and my nickname out of Stinsenator to 2Beer1Sip!!! just a littlen note
There's always a catch. -.-'
I'm still not sure what to make of the whole console.
3D? WITHOUT silly goggles?
I'd still buy it. It looks to be a great system.
Would be neat to see a battery pack come out for it, I guess.
Boooooooo
A shame.
idk why companies look past this so often.
that´s no problem for me, just buy an extra battery.
not all that surprising. 3d shit takes a lot more to power
interesting, never thought about it that way
That was something to expect... you can't have it all.
Not really a fan of hand held games, but sucks for people that use them.
Not terribly surprised honestly. Can't expect the same battery life when upping the power of the hand-held.
er...the new DS has less battery life than the DS lite.
so the 3ds having even worse battery life is hardly shocking. that's the trend.
I will not care considering 3ds will rock.
And battery life goes down unless you use a Mac. Macs suck though.
They managed to get a 3D screen and they can't get to make a better battery?? what a shame
I imagined this from the getgo. Its alot of tech to be handling. oh well. A sacrifice hopefully worth it.
