USB Compatible Jackets

Columbia's Electro Amp jacket is arguably as teched out as a jacket can get really. Designed by a former Intel engineer, the jacket warms itself through the carbon-fiber threads woven into the coat. And even it recharges via USB.

According to GearJunkie, the carbon fiber threads feel like yarn, and they can keep your warm for five hours straight on it's lowest heat setting. But slick tech such as this comes at a premium, and that premium is $1200 dollars. So, how cold are you?

  1. That's actually pretty awesome, in a few years I bet the battery life goes up and the cost comes down.

    Not THAT cold at all.

    I'll use my $40 jacket...and $20 sweatshirt...and be just as warm. xD

  4. I will feel a lot warmer in the next time, remembering that I save $1200. What am I gonna do with all the money I save? Last week I didn't buy a Ferrari, saved $250.000

  7. >>arguably as teched out as a jacket can get really.

I'll argue that. Remember the jackets from Back To The Future 2? You push a button or something and the sleeves fasten to your arms.

  11. I don't think this is marketed toward the individual market as much as it is toward the research environment. I think it would be really useful on the poles for researchers there.
