Ultimate Tablet Showdown: iPad vs. PlayBook vs. Galaxy Tab vs. Slate

The iPad's finally got some competition; in the past few weeks, the HP Slate made a brief appearance, the Samsung Galaxy Tab debuted, and just BlackBerry unveiled its business-minded PlayBook today. Here's how they all measure up:
It should be noted that there are still some things we don't know about the PlayBook, and the HP Slate specs are taken from a leaked internal document that hasn't yet been officially confirmed.

Still, the battlefield's a lot more clearly defined than it was when we first compared tablets—both real and rumored—back in January. And as its rivals catch up, the iPad's looking increasingly outgunned.

That's just on the hardware side, though. Apple's still got three major advantages that opponents haven't made up much space on: iOS, the App Store, and a huge head start. It's going to take more than a pair of HD cameras to overcome that.

  10. I really can't place tablets in my life. Desktop, laptop and smartphone is all I need.

  11. Aside from a supposedly lower battery life, the HP tablet wins out (almost completely) on the hardware side.

  14. Oh Bravo, mate! This is a superb post today, my friend. Very well done, great research on your part, and just incredibly helpful to most of us I'm guessing. I know I've been looking for an alternative to apple, and my girlfriend really wants the pad. You may have saved my 20 years of apple abstinence from being raped.

    Thanks for the comment, mate

  17. I think the Samsung one will be beast. They seem to make some decent products. I'm glad other companies will give apple a run for its money since all apple products are overpriced pieces of crap.

  21. Wow, the specs for the ipad is fucking pathetic. It seems to me like they hold off SIMPLE additions like flash support, just so they can sell another version of the ipad later. When will people stop letting themselves get ripped off? The HP slate is KILLING in specs/features, and it's the same bloody price. RAGE.

  27. At this point, I'm pretty sure I'd take the Slate or the Android.

    Apple products make me uncomfortable.

  28. iPad has always sounded like a joke to me. A blown up iPod, worthless.

  29. The current iPad may not be the best one of the one listed, but the new one (Apple has released a new iPhone, iPod and Computer every year for a while now, so a new iPad will be coming) probably will. There even going to start supporting multi tasking in november with the software update.
